OUR SERVICES

SLOPES & RETAINING STRUCTURES

Whether you have an existing cutting, rock face or embankment, or are planning to create an engineered slope as part of a new development, KS Geo can help you assess the risks and the options available for stabilising and developing all types of slope.

GROUTING & VOID FILLING

Grouting is a general term for a range of techniques whereby a cement based grout is injected under pressure to stabilise weak or unstable ground conditions. The benefits are to increase strength, reduce settlement and reduce groundwater flow.

UNDERPINNING & RE-LEVELLING

KS Geo are able to repair and upgrade existing foundations by carefully planning and carrying out underpinning works. Foundation capacities can be increased to accommodate building extensions or other increases in load and also to repair the effects of damage caused by subsidence or undermining of footings.

Environmental Solutions

We provide land and water management services from River & Stream Management to Public Footpath Management, as well as Environmental Grouting, and Habitat Construction.

Ancillary & Enabling Works

With geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, the end product is often only part of the story. At KS Geo we are able to offer a complete service, partnering with other specialists, to offer a range of services.

Slopes & Retaining Structures

Whether you have an existing cutting, rock face or embankment, or are planning to create an engineered slope as part of a new development, KS Geo can help you assess the risks and the options available for stabilising and developing all types of slope.

Retaining Walls & Structures

We are able to install a wide range of retaining walls and structures to suit your project requirements, ground conditions and budget.
We offer a full range of retaining solutions including:

  • Gabion baskets
  • Crib retaining walls – timber, concrete and eco friendly materials
  • Modular block retaining walls
  • King post retaining walls
  • Piled retaining walls – contiguous & secant techniques, sheet piles
  • Reinforced concrete and masonry walls
  • Reinforced earth slopes

Soil Nailed Solutions

Soil nailing is a technique where an unstable slope is reinforced by installing tendons into the ground to increase global stability. Soil nails are usually installed in a grid pattern and are usually made of steel reinforcing bars fixed into the ground with a cementicious grout. Nails are usually connected to a type of facing to locally contain the ground between nail locations. Hard and soft facings are available in the form either spray concrete mesh product. Options are available to help establish vegetation onto a slope.

Rock Bolts

Rock bolts are similar to soil nails but tend to be shorter in length. Bolts can be installed in either a grid pattern or target specific areas of instability. Bolts can be installed with a facing mesh or installed in isolation to target specific areas of weakness.

Ground Anchors

Ground anchors are required to transfer the large forces created during excavation and construction works back into the ground and minimise the risk of ground movement during operation. Anchors can also be installed to resist the effect of buoyancy experienced in basement, swimming pool and underground storage tank construction.

KS Geo are able to install a wide range of temporary and permanent ground anchors to suit your requirements and ground conditions.

Scaling, De-Vegetation and Repair Work

KS Geo are able to provide rope access personnel to remove loose rock, soil, vegetation and other debris from inaccessible areas on site. We can also undertake brickwork repairs and strengthening work on slopes and other structures.

Grouting & void filling

Grouting is a general term for a range of techniques whereby a cement based grout is injected under pressure to stabilise weak or unstable ground conditions. The benefits are to increase strength, reduce settlement and reduce groundwater flow.

KS Geo are able to undertake a variety of specialist grouting techniques including; void filling, compaction grouting, permeation grouting, rock mass grouting and Tube a Manchette injection grouting.

Applications are wide and varied and can include:

  • Grouting of abandoned mine workings, shafts, wells, tunnels and underground voids
  • Grouting of disused culverts, sewers and pipes
  • Grout curtains and cut-off barriers to reduce groundwater flow in and around excavations, basements and other sensitive structures
  • Compensation grouting – where settlement and subsidence have occurred or could occur as a result of planned excavations; we can inject grout to control, limit or even repair the effects of unwanted ground movement
  • Ground Improvement – increase the stiffness and load bearing capacity of the soil to improve excavation efficiencies, prevent ‘washout’ of soils or even reduce the size of foundations
  • Ecological Grouting – Underground rabbit burrows and badger sett grouting. These can cause significant damage to buildings and the ground above them. We are able to humanely remove your unwanted wildlife, fill the voids and stabilise the ground (subject to obtaining the necessary consents and licenses)
  • Environmental Grouting – where contaminants are present in the ground, it might be more economical to grout them in-situ and reduce the risk of environmental contamination than to remove the source (subject to obtaining the necessary consents and licenses)

Whatever your problem, if you think that grouting might provide an answer, we would be happy to help you in finding the right solution.

We are able to provide a number of solutions including mini pile installation, reinforced concrete beams, mass concrete works and specialist grouting techniques to re-level foundations where subsidence has been an issue. Because of the sensitive nature of these works, we are able to offer advice and work collaboratively with structural engineers and building surveyors to plan and coordinate the delivery of such schemes while minimising the impact on the occupants.

Ground source heat pump installations

KS Geo are able to install ground loops (sometimes called ground arrays) and associated pipework for your ground source heating project, either in a trench system or within vertical boreholes on sites where space is at a premium.

Sometimes projects may not be ready to commission the full heating system due to budget or programme constraints. Let us install the pipework below ground at the start of your project ready for installation of the heating system at a later date. KS Geo undertake loop installations for specialist heating installers or as a stand-alone project. Please get in touch to discuss your ground source heating requirements.
